This Privacy Policy explains how Researcher’s Quill (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our diary apps, Diary App and Prompted Diary App (each, an “App”), on iOS, Android, and the web, and when you visit researchersquill.com. By using an App, you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account information: your email address, the username or display name you choose, and your password (passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see them).
  • Your content: the diary entries, titles, dates, and prompts you write or select in the App.
  • Subscription information: whether you have a Premium membership, when it started, and how you purchased it (App Store, Google Play, or web). We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Device and usage information: app usage events, device type, operating system, app version, and a device identifier used for analytics and to deliver notifications (for example, a push notification token).
  • Account deletion feedback: if you delete your account, the optional reason you give and the date of deletion.
  • Messages to us: anything you send us by email or through our contact form.

Your PIN and biometric (Face ID / fingerprint) lock settings are stored on your device. Biometric data is handled by your device’s operating system and is never sent to us.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and secure your account, including password recovery by email.
  • To store and sync your diary entries across your devices.
  • To provide Premium features and manage your subscription.
  • To send reminders or notifications you have turned on.
  • To understand how the Apps are used so we can fix problems and improve them.
  • To respond to your questions and support requests.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not show ads in the Apps, and we do not use your information to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We do not read your diary entries except when needed to provide support you request or to comply with the law.

3. Service Providers We Use

We share information only with trusted service providers that help us run the Apps, and only as needed for them to do so:

  • Google Firebase (Google LLC): account sign-in, database storage of your entries, cloud functions, web hosting, push notifications, and analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase).
  • RevenueCat: manages subscriptions and purchase records across the App Store, Google Play, and the web.
  • Stripe: processes web payments. Card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never stored by us.
  • Apple and Google Play: process in-app purchases made through their stores, under their own privacy policies.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or sale.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your information is stored on Google Cloud servers in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access to it is limited to what is needed to run the Apps. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

5. Data Retention and Deleting Your Account

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the App under Menu → Account settings → Delete Account. When you do, your account and diary entries are permanently deleted, and any web membership is set to stop renewing. Subscriptions purchased through the App Store or Google Play must be cancelled in those stores. If you cannot access the App, email us at service@researchersquill.com from the address on your account and we will delete your account and data within 30 days.

We may keep limited records after deletion where needed for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, purchase records held by our payment providers) and anonymous deletion feedback.

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • You can view, edit, or delete your diary entries in the App at any time.
  • You can turn off notifications in the App or in your device settings.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing service@researchersquill.com.
  • Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Union), you may have additional privacy rights. We will honor those requests as required by law.

7. Children’s Privacy

The Apps are intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Our Website

researchersquill.com may use cookies needed for the site to work and to collect basic visitor statistics. Information you submit through our contact form is used only to respond to you.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post changes on this page and update the “Last updated” date above. If changes are significant, we will let you know in the App or by email.
